Broiler Barn Worker/Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, motivated, and responsible individual to oversee the day-to-day care and management of two broiler chicken barns. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining bird health and welfare, monitoring barn conditions and equipment, completing routine chores, and ensuring the barns are operated safely and efficiently.

This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, pays close attention to detail, and is willing to respond to issues when they arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily care and monitoring of broiler chickens in two barns.
• Monitor bird health, behavior, mortality, feed and water consumption, and overall flock performance.
• Ensure birds have consistent access to clean water and feed.
• Monitor and maintain proper barn temperature, ventilation, humidity, lighting, and air quality.
• Check and operate ventilation, heating, feeding, watering, lighting, and alarm systems.
• Perform daily inspections of both barns and promptly identify and address equipment or environmental issues.
• Remove and properly record mortality according to farm procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of flock numbers, mortality, feed, water, temperatures, treatments, and other required information.
• Follow all farm biosecurity procedures and maintain cleanliness around the barns.
• Assist with barn preparation, chick placement, flock changes, clean-out, and wash-down between flocks.
• Maintain equipment and report repairs or maintenance requirements.
• Communicate with the farm owner/manager, service technicians, feed representatives, and other personnel as required.
• Follow all animal welfare, occupational health and safety, and farm operating procedures.
• Keep the barns, work areas, and equipment clean and organized.
• Be available to respond to alarms, emergencies, or animal-care concerns outside of regular working hours when required.

Qualifications and Skills

• Previous poultry, livestock, or agricultural experience is an asset.
• Experience with broiler chickens is preferred but training can be provided for the right candidate.
• Good observation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding routine barn operations.
• Physically capable of performing farm duties, including lifting, walking, bending, and working in varying temperatures and conditions.
• Comfortable working around animals, dust, noise, and agricultural equipment.
• Basic mechanical and equipment troubleshooting skills are an asset.
• Good record-keeping and communication skills.
• Valid driver's licence is mandatory.
• Class 3 Drivers licence would be an asset
• Must be dependable, responsible, and willing to work flexible hours when necessary.

Working Conditions

• Work is primarily conducted in two broiler barns and surrounding farm areas.
• The position involves regular exposure to dust, feathers, manure, noise, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
• Regular weekend and holiday checks may be required.
• The position may require responding to barn alarms or urgent issues outside normal working hours.

Position Expectations

The Barn Worker/Manager is expected to take ownership of the daily operation of both barns and ensure that the birds are properly cared for and that barn conditions remain within appropriate operating parameters. Good communication with the owner/manager is essential, particularly when there are concerns regarding bird health, mortality, equipment, feed, water, ventilation, or other barn conditions.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and responsibilities. Housing, utilities, bonuses, or other benefits may be available depending on the position and farm requirements.
