We are currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join our team at our facility in Olds, Alberta. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for scheduling, performing, and documenting preventive and corrective maintenance on production, packaging, utility, and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations. The role supports continuous improvement, equipment optimization, and training of production staff in the proper use and basic care of equipment in accordance with company policies, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair production, packaging, warehouse, and facility equipment, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks on equipment, building systems, and support utilities to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Assemble, install, adjust, and maintain industrial machines and related mechanical parts or systems in accordance with technical specifications and manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Use diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and test equipment, along with blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals, to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, and air‑handling systems (e.g., AHUs, RTUs), and coordinate with licensed trades for major repairs where required.
  • Perform minor facility maintenance tasks such as basic plumbing repairs, fixture replacement, and small building repairs within competence and safety limits.
  • Fabricate, rebuild, and modify mechanical components and assemblies using shop equipment such as grinders, drill presses, and welding equipment, as qualified.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, parts usage, and equipment history, in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or other approved format.
  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and maintenance supplies; initiate or recommend purchase requisitions as required.
  • Collaborate with production, warehousing, and quality personnel to schedule maintenance work, coordinate equipment downtime, and support commissioning or qualification of new or modified equipment.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training and work guidance to production employees in safe equipment operation, basic operator care, and procedures for reporting equipment issues.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Alberta OHS legislation, company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable environmental and GMP requirements.
  • Participate in safety inspections, hazard reporting, and incident investigations related to equipment or facility conditions, as requested.
  • Support facility improvement, renovation, and capital projects, including installation or relocation of equipment, utilities, or services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or designate.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, including power transmission, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques, basic root‑cause analysis, and reliability‑focused maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Familiarity with PLC‑controlled equipment and basic PLC fault‑finding; PLC programming experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and measurement instruments.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety practices in industrial and manufacturing environments, including lockout/tagout and confined pace awareness.
  • Ability to document work clearly and accurately and to prepare simple technical reports or work instructions.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with operations, quality, and external contractors.
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple work orders.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma (secondary school) required.​
  • Completion of a post‑secondary certificate, diploma, or apprenticeship in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food processing, or similar regulated environment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders or stairs for extended periods during a shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 lb as required, using proper lifting techniques and assistive devices where available.
  • Comfortable working around moving machinery, at heights, and in production or warehouse areas with varying temperatures, dust, noise, or fumes, while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, shift work, or on‑call coverage to support production needs and respond to urgent maintenance issues.
