The Opportunity

TruGreen is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join our team to oversee their financial operations. The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in managing the TruGreen's financial processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic planning. This position involves supervising the accounting team, providing financial guidance to senior management, and implementing strong financial controls and procedures.

 

The Controller will work full time from our head office in Olds, Alberta.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the annual financial planning process for the group of companies.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis.
  • Prepare variance analysis to highlight opportunities for cost control.
  • Manage payroll processes and approvals.
  • Take responsibility for quality of all deliverables of the Finance function.
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Become the resident expert on the financial reporting system and help resolve system issues, offering recommendations for improvement and implementation of new processes.
  • Oversee treasury operations to optimize debt and cash balances.
  • Establish policies and procedures to enhance the system of internal controls.
  • Coach and mentor the finance and accounting team.
  • Participate in hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff.
  • Preparation of forecasts and budget.
  • Establish relationships with the company’s bankers and prepare weekly and monthly bank reports.
  • Oversee annual review process.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • CPA Designation.
  • Deep understanding of financial statements.
  • Previous experience at a professional services firm is an asset.
  • Financial modeling skills using advanced excel functions.
  • A mature approach to problem solving by diving deeper and considering broader business implications.
  • Experience leading a team and developing people.
