About the Role

ASC is a not-for-profit society that helps approximately 1500 families each year in South Central Alberta. Operating for over 50 years, ASC provides services for adults, children, and youth with Community Disability Services, Healthy Families Home Visitation Program, Triple P, Connect Seniors Supports, and Reaching Home. Additionally, ASC gives back to the community through operation of the Olds Bottle Depot.

 

Accredited Supports to the Community (ASC) is seeking a highly professional and independent Family Support Practitioner to work within the Ascend Family Supports Program for the area of Mountain View County. This position is Full-time with a minimum of 32 hours per week starting at $24.25 - $25.25.

 

As a Family Support Practitioner, you will provide one-on-one parenting support and children/youth development information to families with children 7 – 18 years of age. In partnership with families, you will help manage the complex challenges of parenting within the many facets of modern life. You will have thorough knowledge of community resources and remain effective in high pressure situations with skilled professional problem-solving. You will use your excellent communication skills and non-judgmental guidance with families towards their goals to strengthen the family unit.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform case management activities in a highly confidential and professional manner
  • Independently manage busy caseloads
  • Schedule and attend home visitations
  • Assist clients in setting goals and identify steps to achieve their goals
  • Identify community providers whose services are relevant to clients’ needs
  • Attend and participate in weekly individual supervision with the Coordinator to collaborate for family/client concerns
  • Data collection and online data entry

The Choice Candidate has:

 

  • A Degree or Diploma in Social Services; fields relating to child development and mental health will be considered
  • 2 years of experience working with families and children or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Knowledge of mental health and child development
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage without judgement with individuals and families
  • The ability to conduct interviews covering extremely sensitive and confidential issues
  • The ability to effectively problem solve in crisis situations with little supervision
  • Strong skills in organizational, time management, and teamwork
  • Expertise to prioritize work tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record and Child Intervention Record check
  • A valid driver’s license, 2 million liability insurance, and reliable vehicle for travel on scheduled workdays
  • Accreditations in Triple P Canada Programs is an asset, including Primary, Group, Teen, FearLess and Transitions
